Performance: Daria Melnikova

KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin together with "kim?" Contemporary Art Centre presents a performance by the winner of the first "kim?" Residency Award and KW’s artist-in-residence Daria Melnikova on July 30, 8pm at KW (Studiolo). The performance is conceived as an embodiment of Daria Melnikova's work during her time in residence at KW, a project still in progress. The work itself is a 3-dimensional construction, an installation composed of materials and aesthetics reminiscent of a cross between an office cubicle and a break room. The annual "kim? "Residency Award is a residency programme for an exceptionally promising Latvian artist or an artist duo. The winner of the first "kim?" Residency Award (Daria Melnikova) spent a period from May to August, 2015 in KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. In 2016 the winner will be able to participate in the ISCP International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York and in 2017 the residency host will be Gasworks, Gallery, Studios and International Residency Programme in London. Daria Melnikova (1984) attended the Art Academy of Latvia, Department of Visual Communication. Recent exhibitions include Brewing Harmony at Gallery Vita Kuben, Umeå, Sweden (2014); A Green Silhouette of Grey at kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (2014) and Dashing Lines and Forming Heaps at kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (2011). Melnikova's work has been shown in group exhibitions such as Le fragole del Baltico at Careof, Milan (2015); Lily's Pool at Art in General, New York (2015); Literacy-Illiteracy at the 16th Tallinn Print Triennial, KUMU, Tallinn (2014); Present Tense at Kalmar konstmuseum, Kalmar (2014); Aspen – Kemmern at "kim?"
