San Francisco Art Institute and Headlands Center for the Arts are currently accepting applications for the fall 2016 Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship. Established in 1998 by the family of painter Richard Diebenkorn—an alumnus and former SFAI faculty member—the Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for established artists to teach at SFAI while expanding their creative vision at the renowned Headlands Center for the Arts. Fellows receive a studio space at Headlands during the semester-long residency with sufficient time and financial support to pursue their practice while teaching. Applicants must reside in the United States and outside the Bay Area. The application deadline for the fall 2016 Fellowship is September 30, 2015. Fellowship award
The Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellow will receive a 25,000 USD stipend to teach two courses in the fall 2016 semester and present a public lecture in the Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series. Fellows engage with the SFAI community through individual critiques, academic programs, and other activities. Fellows must reside full time at Headlands Center for the Arts between August 29–December 9, 2016. The residency includes housing, an 800-square-foot studio, five weekly chef-prepared meals, and access to shared vehicles. Artists-in-Residence are encouraged to engage with peers and participate in the dynamic creative community, including a seasonal Open House with the visiting public. 17 artists have been awarded the Fellowship since 1998, including Brad Brown, Shaun O'Dell, Iona Rozeal Brown, Josephine Taylor, Monica Majoli, Polly Apfelbaum, and Liam Everett. Eligibility
Applicants should be early to mid-career artists with an established body of work and exemplary exhibition record in the media of painting and drawing. Applicants must reside in the United States and outside of the Bay Area. The review committee will consider the applicant's experience, quality of work, written statements, and cultural fit with the SFAI and Headlands communities.
