The Immigrants/Pinta London - New International Art Fair
THE IMMIGRANTS / PINTA LONDON
15 - 18 OCTOBER 2015
The Old Truman Brewery
East London
LAST CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
DEADLINE – 7 AUGUST
A new international art fair, The Immigrants, is set to bring a fresh perspective on global art to London during Frieze Week
Between 15 – October 18 2015, The Immigrants Art Fair will showcase the highest quality contemporary art from around the world at The Old Truman Brewery in East London. Providing a chance to experience the most current trends, and works by established and emerging artists in a relaxed and convivial setting, The Immigrants is set to become a significant addition to London’s busy cultural calendar.
Created by the team behind Pinta London, the Latin American art fair that was established in London in 2010 and which helped bring modern and contemporary art from Latin America to the attention of museums, galleries, collectors and the general public, The Immigrants expands on the concept of the older fair. Breaking with geographical constraints to provide a fresh perspective on global art, The Immigrants is the expression of an idea that emphasises the value of cross-cultural experience.
Bringing together galleries from different regions, The Immigrants will present works by artists from a multitude of backgrounds and spanning different generations, all of who share a desire for breaking with the status quo and exploring new realms, new forms and new ideas. Amongst these are Tate - exhibited artists Santiago Sierra, whose works address themes of immigration, labour and Capitalism, and Guatemalan Regina José Galindo, whose performances and body expressions question notions of power and feminism.
Portuguese international curator Bruno Leitao joins Artistic Director Federico Luger to present specially curated sections, alongside an extensive Auditorium Programme of talks and panel discussions presented by international curators, artists and leading experts.
THE IMMIGRANTS will take place at The Old Truman Brewery in East London, where thousands of immigrants first settled in this cosmopolitan city. Originally a region associated with cultural diversity and industrialisation, and today the enviable hanging out area for the sophisticated and affluent, THE IMMIGRANTS is just a few minutes away from Shoreditch, Spitalfields Market and the Whitechapel Gallery. With the most lively and fashionable restaurants, markets, hotels and private clubs, and within throwing distance from the capital’s financial district, this area has become London’s ultimate destination.
THE IMMIGRANTS will coincide with Frieze, becoming an alternative to exhibit the best of modern and contemporary art, but at accessible fees. London during Frieze week is host to major international collectors, curators and decision-makers in the art world. Thus THE IMMIGRANTS offers a unique and extraordinary opportunity for galleries to be seen, with a continuous shuttle service between Frieze and THE IMMIGRANTS.
